Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered Multiplayer

Pre-release guide. Facts will be rechecked after the November 3, 2026 launch.

Local melee is the soul of the 2002 game: two to four kaiju, shared camera, respawns, score instead of a single stock. That mode is back on larger stages. The new headline is online matchmaking. Atari’s Ethan Stearns walked GamingTrend through an alpha and talked destruction, survival, and the fact that people can finally play this without four controllers and a GameCube. Whether that online is 1v1 only or a four-player netcode circus is still being clarified by store copy that currently lists Xbox online as 2 players.

Local

Plug in pads. Pick versus, melee, or team battle. Expanded arenas are the real local upgrade; four bodies in 2002 Tokyo felt like a subway car. Rules from the original still make sense: shorten versus to one round because DAMM rounds run long, and decide beforehand whether buildings count. Team battle is how you teach a new player without feeding them to three veterans. Keep the control table on a phone for the friend who last played on GameCube.

Online

Online is the feature that did not exist in 2002. GamingTrend reported cross-platform talk from the SGF floor. Xbox’s store currently warns that console online needs Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. Steam will use Steam networking. PS5 will use PSN. Cross-play, if real, is the difference between a living game in 2027 and a weekend toy. This wiki will not promise ranked, rollback, or eight-player lobbies that nobody has shown. For now: expect 1v1 matchmaking, maybe friend lobbies, and test it in the demo if the trial includes net play.

Local melee still looks like this. Online still has to prove it.

Modes that scale to other people

  • Versus: best-of series, usually too long at default three rounds.
  • Melee: score attack with respawns, the party mode.
  • Team Battle: 2v2 local.
  • Destruction: city points, ugly with four vandals, beautiful with two. See Destruction.
  • Survival: one health bar, not a great online pitch unless they add weekly seeds.

If you are buying this only for online, wait for day-one notes or play the demo. If you are buying it for a couch, you already know. Pair either plan with a role so four random Godzillas do not happen.

FAQ

Is online 4-player?

Not confirmed. Xbox listing currently shows online as 2 players and local as 2–4. Believe the store until a trailer shows four-player netcode.

Is there cross-play?

Reported from Summer Game Fest coverage, not printed as a bullet on every storefront. Treat it as likely, not guaranteed.

Does Xbox online need Game Pass?

Xbox’s product page says console online requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. PC Game Pass is a different question.

Can I play split-screen online?

Not documented. Local split is the 2002 behavior. Online plus split would be a bonus, not a promise.
